Rustic Log Furniture Supply & Creation

Sometimes, after looking for design options in the market, a person may find out that there has been nobody that was able to construct exactly what he or she wanted.  It seems no matter how large the store, when it comes to rustic log furniture often stores fail to supply the exact look we're searching for.

This person may want something that was readily made which will fit the house as if it was really made for it.  But this was rarely the case; few people find something that matches the room perfectly.

Even worse, these people will have to settle with whatever is currently offered in the market even if these designs do not seem to enhance the beauty of the house.

But one doesn't need to worry anymore.  With the help of online instructions or published how-to guides, anybody who is physically capable can build his own rustic furniture.

Building this may not be easy, though.  But if you really wanted to get something to match your house perfectly, and you have some skills and some time to spend, then you can definitely try building a log furniture for your home.  Many shops can supply you the materials necessary to create rustic log furniture.

After all, you wanted to have something that looks as if it was built to match the house, then, why not build not for the purpose.

Here are some things to consider when getting your supplies.

* Wood

The commonly used woods for rustic log furniture are pine and cedar wood.  These may be bought from your local wood supplies shop.  The wood to be used should be pre-treated to prevent mold and insect growth.  If the wood is to be used to support the rest of the furniture, make sure that it is not hollow and is sufficiently strong to bear the weight of the furniture and whatever that will be placed on top of it.

* Fasteners

These fasteners should be strong enough to affix the wood to the wall or to the other parts of the furniture.

These should be easy to install and should require less equipment to be used.

* Treating Substance

If the wood is bought without pre-treatment, make sure that you treat the wood with borates before finishing it.

Borates may be applied by spraying or by brushing the substance onto the surface of the wood.  Borates protect the wood from decays caused by insects (beetles, ants and termites) and by molds.

Borates, because it stays in the wood for many years, can give long-term protection without reapplication.

* Finishing and Polishing Materials

For finishing and polishing the surface of the wood, choose materials water repellent properties to protect the wood from moisture.

And when purchasing furniture polish, make sure that you are purchasing the one suitable for the wood that you have used.  Some polishes that also double as wood cleaners contain chlorine that can harm some types of wood, plants and pets.

* Maintenance Materials

To keep the furniture looking good, it should be maintained by wood cleaners.  Oxygenated bleach products are the most preferred wood cleaners.  These are safe for use and environment-friendly since the cleaning mechanism relies on the release of oxygen molecules into the water to clean the wood.

If your log furniture is made of Redwood and Cedar, make sure to use wood brighteners as well.  Oxygenated bleaching products tend to darken these types of wood; so wood brighteners are needed to neutralize the effect.

With this information, all you needed is to have the procedures ready to build your own rustic log furniture.  Books and online resources have reliable information.
