Using Rustic Cabin Rugs in your Decor

The time has passed when chic rugs for your home decor had to be either Persian or oriental. Although the oriental look has always been a perpetually good look for any decor, most decorating experts are now embracing the texture and color that rustic cabin rugs have introduced to present day decorating.

Rustic Cabin rugs used to be restricted to hunting lodges and woodland cabins, but not anymore. With the emergence of modern design and geometrical features, it’s natural that people would like a break from the corners and sharp edges of modern decor and make use of the soft and comfortable features of rustic art.

Rustic cabin rugs come in different shapes and sizes, most of those you might see would probably be those made of real or faux animal skins. Most of the designs that are already around are tiger and zebra skin for the African look that you might want, or you can choose from a variety of Bear and cow designs for a more western country lodge look.

Rugs need not be the centerpiece of the room, but rather an accent. It is best to put in a rustic rug as an accent to a slightly modern room. Cow and bear hides would look great in beige or light design, while tiger or zebra would be better off for darker lighting and darker furniture.

You might be tempted to go all out on country style, and this is not uncommon, however, it is undeniable that we live in a modern society and we can’t altogether remove the influences of modern décor.

If you’re planning on a softer modern look, a rustic rug is the best “softener for your design. For a modern living room a soft Bear rug or a Navajo print rug can be used either beside your cozy living room fire or under the center table. The possibilities of combining modern with country are endless so experiment with them.

When you’re looking to buy a new country rug, remember that it is an accent and not a centerpiece, so it is probably best to design the rest of the furniture, the chairs and the accessories around the area before you decide on a rug. Make sure that the colors of the rug agree but not necessarily complement with the center furniture, which, in case of the living room, is the sofa set. Rustic cabin rugs can also be put in front of Single wing back chairs or in front of the fire.

Floral design rugs are best for under the tables or beside sofas. Some people even use floral design rustic rugs as wall pieces, but this feat requires a really unique rug. You can try it out and see what it looks like.

In addition to where to put your rustic cabin rugs, make sure that whatever rugs that are still in the shape of the animals (like bear and cow rugs) are kept away from high traffic areas like doorways, as the constant stepping might distort or eventually ruin the edges of the rug.

When you’ve finally decided where to put your rustic cabin rug, make sure you remove and have an overall cleanup at least once every three months, or after a party or a social occasion. Unlike permanent carpeting, rustic cabin rugs are most often used as accent pieces and can be easily ruined because of its generally small size, therefore, it should be easily relocated and removed for washing.
