Types of Rustic Birdhouses

Birdhouses are items that represent, through their own definition, country objects. First of all, birdhouses are usually made of natural wood, mostly rough or unvarnished, a touch that makes them authentic rustic birdhouses. Secondly, these rustic birdhouses are set outdoors in trees and they offer housing to little singing birds, so they symbolize a great communication with nature; and nature is the basic inspiration of all rustic items.
 
The most traditional rustic birdhouses are those made of plain wood in its natural colour, excluding metal or plastic, with visible finishes and shaped like a regular house or cabin. Another variant of the real rustic look is represented by the bark kits, which perfectly identify and unite with the tree where they are set in. Still, the large range of rustic birdhouses has enlarged considerably nowadays, as drugstores, restaurants, villas, mills, windmills, Pagoda houses, churches, inns, lodges with porches, flags, flowers, pets and chimneys are accommodating birds, as well. These houses are more brightly coloured, usually varnished and filled with accessories that provide a more complex and sophisticated look. The rustic appearance of these birdhouses is given by the imitation of old or rural inns, restaurants and other buildings, original from various Western areas.

Another category of rustic birdhouses is represented by original objects: cowboy hats, gourds, caddies, flowers, logs, hearts, ships and various boxes. These houses are made of painted wood (cedar, Sassafras, oak and bark), resin and ceramics, with added bows, natural leaves, flowers or feathers and with sturdy metal or iron hangers. The same model of a birdhouse is usually found in more sizes and some of them present variants of birdhouses with singular or multiple entries. 

There are some versions of rustic birdhouses which are made of twigs, vines or branches.  Besides looking very natural, these birdhouses are light and airy, so the interior is kept clean and fresh, without much effort. Other hygienic options are the birdhouses made of tough plywood for the exterior and curved pre-drilled plastic for the bottom, for good ventilation.

Some of the rustic birdhouses come partially or totally unassembled, in packages including nails, wooden parts, suction cups and screwdrivers, for a family project. Rustic birdhouses are low maintenance outdoor decor objects that fit even to urban houses. The varnished and brightly coloured birdhouses, imitating accessorized rustic buildings or the vanguard houses imitating clothing and kitchen accessories fit in city gardens, because they bring colour and oneness.
