Types of Rustic Bars
An authentic rustic kitchen and living room combines all kinds of rustic furniture pieces, and a bar is an original and daring element. Rustic bars differ in style (forms, sizes and material), depending on the regional origin. There are Mexican, Santa Fe, Spanish, English, Colonial, Western and South-Western furniture pieces, representing distinctive cultures. Still, the general characteristic of all these rustic bars is to provide a warm and harmonic environment.
Rustic bars are usually made of pine and oak construction materials that give them a lighter texture and weight, but also some aesthetic qualities: naturalness, simplicity and olfactory freshness. Rustic bars are found in a variety of shapes and the most frequent ones are "L" shape, oval bar stands, square and massive bars, also known as grand bars. Some of the most representative rustic bars are the hacienda ones, characteristic for the old farms in Latin America. These are full service type bars, with shelf spaces and drawers, but some also include suspended racks for glassware storage.
The most frequent colors for hacienda bars are the traditional rustico or light pine and cream white. The Western bars, best represented by the Texan ones, are usually hand carved and presented in brighter nuances of wood than the Mexican or European ones. Some of these pieces include, besides the numerous sculpted elements, the Texan legendary motif.
Iron rods are used in combination with pine wood to create some more eclectic rustic bars and the iron hardware and detailing increase the rustic appearance of the bar. Iron or various metals are used for the legs, as well and these ones provide a higher stability on the floor. There are many rustic bars which are gifted with extra accessories, like glass holders, wine racks, foot boards, removable metal shelves, iron pulls and detailed interlaced or painted bar doors. The colors of these rustic bars are not limited to the natural wood ones. There is a wide range of combination between colors, like red and black or dark and light brown bars, with stained wood grain tops. Usually, these colored bars are varnished, to keep the colors bright for a longer time.
Rustic bars are artistic furniture pieces, which define the rustic style of the room. Besides this, these rustic bars have practical qualities, too, such as the fact that they can function as cabins or storages for different beverages and aliments.
