Make Your Own Country Mirror

You might think that a mirror is a standard home accessory, with less creative options, but you can convert it into a country mirror by decorating it yourself. Wide country mirrors can reinvent a room and small decorative mirrors can easily transform an ordinary place into an intimate one.

A hallway or living-room mirror with wooden frame is a good start for a country mirror, by embellishing it with large symmetrically disposed elements made of wire, hard colored paper or wooden beads. You can also apply wooden shapes, which you can color differently or, if you have patience, paint them with meticulousness with curvy geometric shapes. Add real dry flowers in the corners on a brown or green frame for a rustic and natural aspect.

A frameless mirror can be easily decorated by applying a contour of little stones right on the glass. For an authentic country mirror look, you can collect tiny unique stones or shells yourself right from the nature. You can also apply a thin tree branch or oak leafs on the upper right corner and lower left one. Another original idea that fits best a small mirror is to apply different seeds on it, as a frame: rye, corn or rice. You can paint the glass of a frameless mirror with special colored enamel, on 2 or all sides, by drawing flowers or geometrical figures. For a frameless mirror you can cut a frame for it, made of cloth, on which you can sew different symbols. Or, you can make a linen frill with additive bows for a really romantic and bohemian look in the bedroom or surrounding your make-up mirror.
 
Even an ordinary bathroom mirror can be transformed into a country mirror, by painting a design with fishes, sea stars, shells or ocean plants on its glass or even better, directly on the surrounding wall.

Animals, flowers, natural pieces and symmetric shapes are the best choices to decorate a mirror in a country style. The motifs and styles that you should avoid when you want to get a country mirror are: mystical or religious symbols, human faces, asymmetry, letters or words, glass, obscurity and sharp artificial colors.
