Nature's Inspiration in the Country Home
An intimate atmosphere, a cozy space with bohemian air, a road back to past and valuable roots, but most important, the return to nature – these are all ingredients of the country home. From wood to graved stone and from large old looking-like pieces to tiny, yet effective decor elements, the country home reveals a wide range of natural elements.
Starting from the grit stone, which must imitate real rock, till the decorative details applied on the fabrics, all elements must remain or follow the shapes and colors of the natural surroundings. That is why in authentic country homes, the basic colors are ranging from sand shades to earthy brown and wood colors, which are all basic elements of the nature. The country colors also include light orange, as a symbol of fire, yellow representing light and for the small motifs mostly red, green and white, colors of trees and flowers.
The main furniture pieces in a country home are the large wooden ones, which can be unpolished for a more rustic look. Wood is used for knitted chairs or baskets, inspired from the peasants' old work and for various decor objects: hangers, wooden painting frames, vases or pots. The ceramic and clay decor, materials used since ancient times, is also rustic, especially with the ones with colored motifs. Metal is not used in large furniture pieces, but in antique decor objects like: rush holders, coffeepots, or silver kettles. Fabricated or chemical elements, such as: plastic, glass, synthetic fabrics or unnatural colors for natural elements are avoided or inexistent in the country style.
The details applied on the rustic furniture and decor are all borrowed from nature: flowers or leaves which can be stylized, colored or with highly detailed applications. The real country style flowers are only the field ones, simple and colored, from daisies to corn flower and field poppy. Sophisticated and expensive flowers, like orchids or roses don’t harmonize with the simplicity of the country home. Grass leaves and branches can be combined or displayed in vases, baskets, as decor. Even fruits in a wooden basket on the kitchen table or painted fruits on the plates and dishes bring nature into the house. Animal inspiration is not missing from the country home either: natural fur of wild animals on the floor, wool covers on the bed, or even stuffed animal heads on the walls of the great hunter homes. From flowers and animals to wood, stone and ceramic, all the elements found in the country home are inspired from nature and bring its simplicity and beauty in the living space.
