Country Home Decorating

Even if you just spend you summers or winter holidays in your country home, this private cottage shouldn't lack decorations that give it personality and warm feeling. Country home decorating is most efficient if it suits the area where the cottage is located and if it transforms the house to your welcoming second home. Country home decorating is easy and more fun if you make the decors yourself and adjust them to your family traditions, values and tastes.

First of all, you should purchase all kind of materials that would help you start the country home decorating: paintbrushes for both large and delicate painting, linen and different cloth, appliqued fabrics, shells and ocean related accessories for a seaside home, rock pieces, glue, small stones, glitter and wooden plates.

Every object that might seem dull in the house can be decorated: start by painting or applying frames to the mirrors, paintings, charcoal drawings or walls. After painting, the frames can be covered in linen with appliqued embroideries, or small dry flowers, leaves and colored beads or spangles can be sewed or glued to it. Covers, curtains, towels and pillows can be intentionally patched up with squares and visible sewing, to look imperfect, yet artistic, as country home decorating should promote the opposite of luxury and cold perfection.

Go together with your family on the wild fields and forests near your country cottage: you will find for sure some wild, unique flowers that you can't purchase from a city florist. These can be in all colors and sizes, but just don't take the leaves off, as these give them the wildness and exotic look.

Back at your country home, put these flowers without arranging them too much in a large bouquet on the main living room table, not in a fine ceramic vase, but in a rough and unpainted one. This can also be of clay or rusted iron. Add the vase on a white cover with trace embroideries and the country look will be obvious for all your guests. Replace all plastic and simple glass with wood, ceramics and chrome or dark metal and keep the modern items out of sight as possible.

Country home decorating is a great project for your children, too. Their creativity and skills can be used to create decors, such as: cutting paper, painting trunks, vases and frames or they can be given full liberty to express themselves, as country home decorating means keeping the values of the family through handcraft.
