Country Design for a Cottage
Building or redecorating a country house is a great start for an old rural look, given by the country design and architecture. Country design ignores asymmetry, illogic, uncomfortable spaces or adopting aesthetics with the price of simple and natural look.
First country design step you need to take in order to transform a regular house into an authentic country one, is building a porch. This should be wrapped around and made not of cement, but out of wooden plates. Wooden floors are traditionally constructed with boards that should be bare, but stone is also a good idea, but only the rough one and not the precious finished style. You can build it in two floors, for a chalet look. The porch should be topped with a gabled roof. If this seems like too much work for you, forget the roof, but get a striped colored rectangular umbrella and place it on the wooden porch, protecting some pine lounge chairs or trunks and a rustic table. Country design means classic shapes for the rooms, without multiple levels or stairs defining spaces. The house design should allow every room to have enough brightness. For a rustic appearance, hang an elegant traditional brass chandelier with simulated candle lights on the ceiling. The doors should be large and made of decorated pine or oak. You can easily adjust the door color to the furniture or rugs: the light colors tend to be more rustic, while the darker have a more elegant aspect. A great idea for the entries is to transform them to hoods, a country design famous for the gothic style. The curve can be afterwards decorated with stones, floral motifs or sculpted stone. The Greek columns are also Gothic and they can be built out of stone or wood in large living-rooms to amplify the historical and traditional look. Extend the country design outside the house, too. You should also grow two rows of field flowers, such as daisies and poppies, with a path to the patio between them. Place a rooster decor in front of the house or in the patio, along with iron benches or unvarnished wooden items.
If you want to follow the country design, you don’t have to change the architecture of the house, as less work adjustments can redefine your cottage. Country design homes are cozy and unassuming, combining the rural with the comfortable and the modern with the old.
