Country Cottage Furniture
Everyone needs to have some way by which they can escape the world. For some, this is a specific activity, such as gardening or painting. Other people use a specific place as their escape, such as a favorite place on the beach, that perfect spot under a tree at a local park, or a quiet corner by your fireplace to curl up with a good book. For many people, though, their idea of the perfect place to get away from it all is a country cottage. Of course, country cottages are not exactly cheap, and even if you are able to buy (or rent) one, you still have the challenge of finding some appropriate country cottage furniture. This can be difficult at times, but the great thing about country cottage furniture is that it is, by its very nature, flexible, meaning your options are wide open.
When you set out to find country cottage furniture, it is a good idea to set a base line for yourself. That is to say, decide on a sort of theme that you want to weave through your room, and use that as your basic concept. This can be nearly anything, such as a specific color, a pattern, even a shape that appeals to you.
The difficult part of this process, though, is remembering not to force yourself to stick too closely to your decided theme. One of the characteristics of cottage furniture, you see, is that it does not quite fit together the same way as the furniture of most other styles. The degree to which you express this in your room is entirely up to you, but the cottage style has a certain amount of disassociation built into it which gives the style its eclectic flair.
When you begin to select your furniture, keep in mind the theme you decided on and try to work outward from it. For instance, if you decided to use a specific color as your theme then you might want to use a chair that either is solidly that color or has that color predominant in its pattern, and then choose perhaps a sofa that has your color in smaller amounts in a pattern. Then, perhaps, you might bring in a pleasantly contrasting color in another piece of furniture. Picking out your country cottage furniture is really all about exploring ways to express your theme in a loose form.
Of course, you certainly do not have to actually have a country cottage in order to use country cottage furniture. The style that is common to country cottages can easily be used in pretty much any home in any place. The open nature of the cottage style means that you can adapt your scheme of country cottage furniture to fit with previously established décor. In fact, you can even use the principles of the country cottage style with other styles of décor by working in loose associations and elements of randomness, giving any style you choose that same eclectic feel.
